Hooked pine (Pinus uncinata)

The hooked pine is very close to the mugo pine. Its needles are in pairs, stiff, dark green. It is distinguished by its single, straight stem and its conical top. It is a valuable species for high altitude reforestation. It is very resistant to cold, snow and wind. It grows as well in calcareous soils as in the acid peat of the sagnes.
