Swiss pine (Pinus cembra)

10 to 25 m high, the cembro pine (or swiss pine) is the main tree of the Alps in altitude. It can be recognized by its needles grouped by 5, from 5 to 8 cm long, dark green with white stomatal bands. The Cembro pine is very resistant to cold, snow and storms. It likes an intense light, a cold climate. Its growth is slow, but its wood is very appreciated for carpentry. Note that its seeds are edible.
