Black truffle (Tuber melanosporum)
The black truffle (Tuber melanosporum), like all truffles, requires a particular biotope (limestone soil, shallow and well drained). To develop, the black truffle of Périgord must also find a host tree with which it will "cohabit". If it is most often found under a holm oak or a white oak, many other tree species produce black truffles, such as the hazel tree, the basswood or the hornbeam. Robin Nurseries offer you different truffle tree plants mycorhized with Tuber melanosporum. What to launch you serenely in the black truffles growing.

Truffle plants specifically mycorrhized to produce black truffles
Many species of host trees are eligible for the cultivation of the black truffle of Périgord. ROBIN Nurseries offers you truffle plants mycorhized with Tuber melanosporum produced in our own laboratory, under the control of INRAE. Thanks to their high level of performance, these plants allow you to produce your own black truffles. We advise you to choose a tree species adapted to the climate of your region. Depending on the age of the plant and the soil chosen, you will have to wait between 5 and 8 years to harvest your first black truffles.
Which tree to plant to get black truffles ?
The black truffle is most often found at a depth of about 15-25 cm under truffle trees such as the pubescent oak (Quercus pubescens) or the holm oak (Quercus ilex). But it is also produced in hornbeam or pine orchards. The hazel tree (Corylus avellana) is also an excellent candidate for the production of black truffles, as is the basswood (Tilia cordata). All these tree species respond very favorably to mycorrhization by Tuber melanosporum and will therefore produce beautiful black truffles as long as the conditions for its cultivation are met. Namely: good sunshine, warmth, a calcareous and draining soil with a pH between 7.5 and 8.5, with at least 8% of total limestone. A silty-clay or sandy soil, even stony, is ideal.
The black truffle is not the only one that can be born from the mycorrhization of a host plant. Robin Nurseries produce and offer a complete range of truffle plants able to produce 4 varieties of truffle. If you are not sure which one is best suited to your truffle project, ask our experts for advice. They will help you set up your truffle orchard and guide you in its maintenance..
